• An appeal is the process by which a higher court reviews the decision of a lower court. When a case is decided in court, the losing party might believe that a mistake was made in the trial. This could be an error in how the court applied the law, decided a motion, conducted the trial, or how it handled the evidence.  If a party believes that a court made a significant error, they can ask a higher court to review the decision. This request is called an appeal.
